average and unoriginal. chapters were short, which made the book fast paced and i liked the multiple POVs (really great on audio since it's a full cast). the ending was kind of boring and anticlimactic especially after all the action that happened throughout the rest of the book. kind of gave me "final girls" by riley sager vibes.
Spoileri feel like killing off the only character of color when all the white people survived was kind of racist, which left a bad taste in my mouth.

I can't believe the only person who died at the end was Atticus. What the hell was that.

New Years Eve in 1999, a small town, a senseless crime, multiple young victims, one survivor, the suspect escapes. Fifteen years later, history seems to repeat himself: another slaying in the same town, young victims, a sole survivor whose testimony links the two killers. But could the suspect be the same boy who has not been heard from in years? Ella, the sole survivor of the first crime, finds herself drawn into the mystery, intent on uniquely helping the surviving girl, and perhaps finally getting answers about the fateful night that has haunted her for years. Nothing, and no one, is what they seem.
.
Listened to on audiobook and the plot and multiple POVs felt easy to follow, each with an interesting perspective. Ella and Chris's POVs brought forth a particular human connection to the case. The story is told in a way that keeps you invested, keeps you listening, but the ending was unexpected, and not in a good way. I found that this "twist" lacked build up and stakes, where it was so out of left field that I felt no shock at all. I did like that multiple crimes were revealed in the course of this investigation and those added some excitement/realistic horror.
.
I was shaking my head at the pregnant detective involving herself in certain scenarios though...

'The Night Shift' is a solid, but kind of standard, crime/thriller novel.

Its a multiPOV novel, that focuses on a crime that was committed 15 years ago where three teenagers were murdered in a video store and one was left alive, now in the present there is another murder case with a few too many similarities to the 'blockbuster murders'.

The multiple POV structure really helps the reader to feel immersed in the investigation, as you are procuring 'evidence' as the story unfolds and are not missing out on any of the information that the characters have.

Overall, a very quick and entertaining read!
