Pretty predictable, but I still enjoyed it

Kind of a typical slasher book, but I enjoyed the characters and their stories. Overall a fun read.

3 ⭐️ a good, twisty thriller. Nothing crazy special, but also not bad by any means.
**UPDATE: In working on my monthly recap booktube video, I am going through all my books read this month and I honestly forgot I read this and couldn't tell much about the plot... so clearly not memorable at all.

I found this book interesting and liked the storyline, but it didn’t grab me. It felt a little far-fetched and unrealistic and the ending was too dramatic. The epilogue was helpful, but still left a few questions in my mind.

On the cusp of YTK, on NYE of 1999, a bunch of kids working at Blockbuster were murdered, leaving one survivor. 15 years later some kids are killed in the same way at an ice cream parlor, also leaving a single survivor. The circumstances around both murders were awfully similar, and the one possible suspect from the Blockbuster murders disappeared without a trace after being found not guilty. Is the original suspect back? Did he commit this new crime, or is there something authorities missed in 1999 and unknowingly let a killer live freely?

This was VERY good. This has multiple POVs which include an FBI agent, a lawyer, and both of the survivors. This has all the twisty and turny goodness that I look for in a thriller. This wasn’t graphic (so yay to no major TWs being necessary), had me on the edge of my seat with each slow reveal (typically at the end of each chapter), was succinct & moved at a good pace, and it had an unpredictable ending. This was a fast read that was thoroughly engaging and entertaining. My only complaint is I thought there would be more 90s nostalgia and reminiscing. Aside from that, I really enjoyed this story and it wasn’t what I was expecting at all.
