This has been my least favorite read of the year so far. Heti was trying so hard to be deep about life and death and everything in between but it really came across as just confusing. I don't know. Maybe I just didn't get it but I saw a review on here saying that this book is just words on a page and that person was right. It felt like there was no actual storyline and ended in a way that made it seem like it was supposed to be a bedtime story for someone? I kept thinking that we would be introduced to the "second draft" of the world at some point in the book because she spent so much time talking about how fucked the first draft was and even kills her main character at one point and sends her in a leaf to be with her dead dad. I for sure thought that the part after that would be the second draft of the world but no. And in the description it mentions Annie. And that makes you think she's going to be a big part of the book. She is barely in the book and honestly doesn't serve much purpose after helping get the main character out of the leaf. I don't know. I left the book feeling cheated. That is time I'll never get back.

It started off interesting and unusual but very soon it turned into philosophical rambling. There are some quotes that are beautiful but they get lost in meaningless metaphores and similies. It gets quite boring and repetitive very soon. I never got to the leaf part, I was losing patience.
