Three wishes by Barbara Delinsky
Have read other works by this author and have loved the books.
This one starts out in Panama, VT and we find Bree Walker leaving the diner she works at, walking home but she's hit.
She wakes up in the hospital with dreams of being given three wishes before she dies for good, out of body experiences that I'm not sure I believe it, interesting to learn about.
Tom Gates is the man who rescues her and he is there to help in any way he can as she recuperates. He's soul searching as he's left his family behind in hopes he can find himself once again...
What I like about this book is the location and what snow covers-typical New England village, so descriptive and detailed. How she knows her job so well-knows what others will order and especially the truckers who visit often. Love hearing of the holiday and seasonal events that the town take joy in participating.
Tom holds his own secrets and he hopes it keep it that way...
They spent a lot of time together while each recuperate although the townsfolk don't know why he spends so much time there...
She holds her own secret after waking up and talking to the doctors that she may never come to terms with...after her third wish things happen fast...
Received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

I really really loved this book. The two different perspectives were written eloquently and excellently timed. The idea of Jinn was believable and Jinn and Viola's love came slowly and nicely. I found their romance endearing and true, a very beautiful story.

From the first page to the last, As You Wish was wonderful. Totally and utterly wonderful.

Oh how I love Viola, Jinn, and Lawrence. The connections, good and guilt-ridden, are so well written and didn't feel forced or fake. Every moment, every emotion, every realization felt real throughout the book. There was truth in how Viola felt after her break with Lawrence (broken and invisible -- how we all feel after a heartbreak) and I loved that Ms. Pearce wrote it so sincerely.

And Jinn? How could you not adore him?

I cried at the end, I have to admit. First because Ms. Pearce's characters broke my heart, then because she gave me the HEA I was wishing for.

As You Wish is a beautifully written book with wonderful characters, a myriad of emotions, and some really funny moments. I look forward to re-reading it in the near future.

I was really truly interested in this story. I like Aladdin very much, so I thought it was funny to put a genie in the life of a teenage girl and it could be cute to make him fall for her. But although the story is indeed cute and I'm half in love with Jinn, the characters are quite flat without any depth that could have helped to make them interesting for the reader. They're just typical, even the main characters.

The story is quite lame. It doesn't have intrigue or it has very, very little and it based from start to end only in Viola's wish of belonging and the development of Jinn's feelings for her (and hers for him, too, of course). The final chapters after the third wish is granted are a little bit I-don't-know-how-to-bring-these-two-back-together-and-I-came-with-this-idea. But although this idea is nice and pretty and brings you to a happy ending, it doesn't make any sense and doesn't help to imagine their future together, if they have any beyond the eighteen-month punishment. Or does it make sense and I missed it? I liked though the descriptions of the smells and of the paintings, but it was quite repetitive and tedious sometimes.

The only thing I think the book is worth reading is Jinn. It is a fantastic character, lovable and charming; it's quite good described (although I cannot picture him) and I liked very much the narration when he's all confused and disoriented about what is happening to him and how he's feeling.

"how important it is to be careful what you wish for" -> I didn't find this lecture anywhere in the book. Viola only wishes once for herself and just because she was drunk... Where is the lecture here? fO.o

The truth is: this book would make a nice and interesting teen movie *___*

3 stars (4 only for Jinn) because of the lame storyline

I really wanted to love this book because i´ve heard so many great things about it and it got recommended to me and a lot of people who have a similar book taste loved it and I got it from the publisher and I was really excited to start it and ... i just ended up being kind of disappointed.

It´s not like i didn´t like this book. I did!
It is a really great story and the love story in it is definitely cute but...

I thought Lawrence was the only really cool character here. I just couldn´t relate to Viola and in my eyes I couldn´t really see why she fell in love with Dschinn and everything seemed just a bit forced. I mean I think I kind of understand how Viola feels when she says she is transparent, I feel like this sometimes too. But all in all I found her a bit too whiny AND a bit too unrealistic with her wishes aka not-wishing-anything-because-i´m-smart-and-i-know-i-should-wish-for-something-better... Because who would really do that? I know I wouldn´t, but maybe I´m the only one.

And I just expected a much bigger Love Story here. Maybe it is a big love story to a lot of the readers but because it was so easliy predictable in my eyes the epic love finale lost a lot of power and was not that epic and turned out really cheesy. Which i normally like but somehow just annoyed me here.

The story was nice and original (no vampires or angels *whooohooo*) though really see-through and not very surprising.

I ended up giving this book 3.5 stars because i liked it more than just "liked it" but not enough to "really like" it.

hmm...
