I had high hopes for this one and it was sort of a flop for me. The illustrations are nice but the plot is all over the place and the characters are very one-dimensional. I was also very annoyed by the use of emojis in the writing (in one conversation bubble, a pirate is swearing and it's just a poop emoji *eye roll*).

This was my second graphic novel in an effort to try to get out of a reading slump and it definitely did just that! I loved the characters and the story. I loved how the story was based off of real pirates stories and even some of the characters were based off real pirates. The story kept me engaged and wanting to know what was going to happen next. I loved that there were queer characters and how that was built into the story. The only negative I would say would be that the ending didn't really sum everything up and kind of left me hanging.
