I almost stopped this book several times during the first half…the author’s sharing of her story felt irritating and self-serving and trite (what does that say about MY psychology….). By the last page my hear was wrapped up in the “characters” and I am deeply glad I stuck with it.

Probably my favourite book in 2019. Funny, moving, forces you to reflect and was so addicting that I kept reading a few pages here and there because I JUST WANTED TO EAT IT. No but seriously, it's great, if you're into relationships, humans, psychology, or anything kinda related to those topics, just read it.
What a great reminder on the IMPORTANCE of seeking therapy. I stumbled upon an article of Lori Gottlieb on the Atlantic last week so I looked her up and found out that she has some published works! I'm trying to read more self-help/memoir books this month and focus on female and/or POC authors. This was a satisfying read, I need to find out who John (Famous Hollywood TV Writer) is
I love this book, obviously, as it is my line of work. I listened to it on audible - I highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed this - a heavy read, but an emotionally cathartic and ultimately hopeful one.
3.5 Rounded Up
I really enjoyed hearing the stories of the clients. Rita, Julie, John, and Charlotte. These stories were so intriguing and well done. I was very roped in to seeing how these people came into therapy and was able to unravel their trauma and get to the root of their issues.
I did feel the book was too long and a big meandering. As much as I like to peer into the mind of the therapist, I felt myself wanting to skip the chapters about Lori. Hearing her interactions with Wendall was a good juxtaposition with her clients, however, I really couldn't care less about her previous work leading up to therapy.
