Great at first. I loved the author’s voice. Was very interesting to learn what goes through the minds of therapists and learn about different concepts, theories and strategies that they use with patients. But I had a hard time staying attached about 60% in.

4.5 stars. I liked this more than I thought I would, primarily for the ways it illustrated the mechanics of therapy, which was fascinating. Well-written and we’ll-observed.

Lori's memoir told the story of a psychiatrist who faced her patients—and also became a patient herself due to her own problems. She met Wendell, a psychiatrist who helped Lori confront her trauma: her boyfriend left her because he didn't want to have children.

In addition to discussing Lori's progress in therapy, the memoir also presented the struggles of her patients, starting from young to old. Their problems varied: suicidal thoughts, love issues, and the anxiety of battling cancer.

Beyond these stories, Lori unexpectedly fell in love with her own psychiatrist. This created an awkward tension between doctor and patient.

I checked this out from the library, but will be buying a copy for my personal library. Thank you to my book club for reading this book, which I wouldn't have picked up otherwise. I love it!
