One of the best books I’ve read, insightful, her clients are endearing and you like her start to form a earth for them. Lori is someone you want in your life as her perspective is so honest and refreshing. I’m happy she finally wrote her book in the end because we all can benefit from it. Read the book! It’s worth it time and time again!
I learned a ton and loved the stories Gottlieb used to teach me. Just the right ratio of funny and serious with a few tear-jerking moments sprinkled in for depth. Brought me back to my intro to my first psych class and reminded me of our mind's beautiful complexity.
A well written memoir of sorts. The themes and lessons are well woven throughout and I enjoyed "growing" with the characters. At times it was a little boring or predictable (after all it's reality) but five stars for the courage it left me with.

Really enjoyed this book. I really resonated with some of the concepts and challenges some of her and her patients were experiencing. I think it was an impactful book, but not as impactful to me like the defining decade or dear sugar. Im not sure why, but maybe it's because I already know the benefits of going to therapy. Maybe these are issues that don't "impact" me so closely. But it was a great book. Well written. Not for everyone, but I think a good book about what a good therapist could do for you.

A self-help book that doesn't feel like one. 10/10
What I loved about this book is that the author emphasizes that we're all just complex human beings trying to navigate what life is. And we can further understand ourselves by simply connecting with people - opening our hearts to experiences whether it's good or bad.

Maybe I'm giving her 5 stars because I have previously been in therapy in my twenties. It was a gripping read for me, and she's an amazing writer. My only question mark surrounds the timeline in the writing. The timeline skips and jumps and crosses over itself. I have also noticed this with Elizabeth Gilbert, and Tara Westover. Lori Gottlieb moved around in her timeline. And with all these writers, I am uncertain if it is to change the way a reader feels about the story, or because it tells a better story, OR, if it's because the way they are writing the story it makes the most sense, in hindsight. Whatever it may be, they are all amazing writers, and I have benefited from reading their stories.
