My child Isabel was obsessed with these books as a pre-teen. But at the age where they wanted to read on their own. So I didn’t get to enjoy them with them. And I’d never read them myself. I can see why they loved them so much. Sweet feminist historical fiction. What’s not to love?

Lovely

What a lovely book with beautiful writing and wonderful characters. The descriptions of nature are gorgeous. Anne is the quintessential girl, just like Huck Finn. Perfection.

I was really worried I wouldn't like Anne of Green Gables because classics and I don't always get along, but I needn't have worried. I adored this coming-of-age tale. I found a kindred spirit in Anne. She reminded me of myself, other than her being ever the optimist. The only thing I take issue with is why did it take the whole book for Anne to forgive Gilbert?! So much lost time!

Absolute childhood classic i found in a shop- immediately went home and started reading it! I completely managed to erase matthew’s death out of my childhood memories so of course i had a full blown sob over that.
