I love this book and how the author talks about how complicated parental relationships can be. I appreciated her perspective and found myself crying at one point. The writing flows nicely and the talk about dealing with grief and how she reconnected with her family and Korean identity is really beautiful. Truly a stellar book. I have nothing negative to say about it.

Really beautiful. The relationship between Michelle and her mother feels very similar to mine and my mom so reading this felt really tender during some bits. Really enjoyed this life story!

She talks about food a lot and it all sounded so delicious and made me soooo hungry. Eloquently balanced the complicated relationship with her mother with the love they had for each other. Beautifully written. Reminded me of leg but more poetic. A lovely memorial of her mother, their relationship, and their culture.

This book made me both laugh and cry--I love that in a book. I thoroughly enjoyed the reflective nature of Zauner's memoir and the way she told a heartwrenching story through food. As a mixed race person living in America, I can sympathize with the struggle of finding your place in the world while caught between 2 (or more) different cultures. Telling her story through the recipes she learned snd recreated throughout this period of her life was a clever way of enlivening her narrative through taste and smell. Truly a fantastic read.
