James Dashner has done it again. Created a perfect story in a not so perfect world. In the sequel, the stakes are higher. I'm sure everyone has a boat ton of questions after that last ending, but after this novel, the readers will receive more questions than answers. The characters become even more developed and we have plot twists around every corner. This is one of the best science fiction novels I have ever read, and I assure you, it does not suffer from second book syndrome.

Liked it better than the first book. Ending once again is left on a cliffhanger.
James Dashner always writes an exciting series and this one doesn't disappoint! I'd recommend this series!
I loved this book. I loved that Sarah accepted that Michael was AI and was determined to help him accept it himself. I love how accepting Bryson was about it and how he didn't even question it. I love that he was so encouraging towards him and told him it didn't matter. This book was definitely confusing in certain parts and I still have tons of questions. I felt bad for Gabby because she didn't have a choice but to be thrown into everything that had happened. Kaine seems like a complete badass and he's definitely going to be hard to defeat. I hate that all three friends ended up in prison because someone set them up. I was glad they were able to get out and hopefully they are able to figure everything out and take out Kaine. Overall an amazing book. Onto the 3rd.
The problem with virtual reality is sometimes it's so real that we don't know what is reality... or virtual... This seems to be the common thread in the Mortality Doctrine series, but especially in The Rule of Thoughts. I love that these books have been quick reads, but they have yet to fully suck me in from start to finish. However, I will give it to Dashner - I'm definitely intrigued. And very, very confused. I don't know what is real or not real at this point, and I have to read the final book in the series just to find out the truth. I love the trio of characters, and I can see myself and my friends in them at times, which helps me feel like I'm right alongside Michael, Bryson, and Sarah as they try to save the world.
Okay, so there are flaws in Dashner’s writing, but y’all, I still got sucked into this story. It’s another of those “don’t think too hard about it” novels (and it definitely helps that I know next to nothing about programming — if I did, I’m pretty sure I’d hate the lack of research done on Dashner’s part).
The ending though. I need the next book now!
