Brilliant and beautiful, this novel completely deserves all the accolades it has gooten. Their Eyes Were Watching God follows the life of Janie from a young girl to a middle aged woman as she discovers herself snd love. Her relationships with her grandmother, her husbands, and the people of the towns she lives in guide her life and her quest to not just survive but live with joy.

I’m torn because I LOVE the idea of this plot. I loved the ending, actually. 

I didn’t love this “love story” between Janie and Tea Cake. It was a toxic relationship, and he was abusive. That love story ultimately played a big role and Janie really held on to that love until the end. I wanted better for her after Jody and Logan.
