This is one of those times where the screen adaptation is much, much better than the source material.

Well written period romance, I fear Netflix are on to something... 😂

Thoroughly enjoyed this! One of the few times I’ve watched a screen adaptation first and it probably helped a great deal with understanding characters, especially all the Bridgerton siblings!

Definitely pictured the characters from the show instead of how they were described in the book which also helped a lot!

Not sure romance is my genre in general, but will definitely continue this series, if only because I like the show and the first few are free on audible with my subscription!

tw sa, 2000s fantasy misogyny

2.5. my first dip into trashy romance for middle aged women. i watched the show before i read this and i gotta say, these characters are extremely annoying. especially simon. also the sex was so mid, like if you're gonna write smut then commit to the grind and SAY COCK.

for a book that was written in 2000 BY A WOMAN, this one sure includes a lot of misogynistic tropes (simon abusing the fact that he legally owns daphne, simon withholding information from daphne, which isn't so much sexist as it is literally abusive) and goes as far as to include a marital rape scene where daphne is the perpetrator, all a result of a highly dysfunctional relationship. anyway this books sucks due to horrible writing and weird idealization of what relationships should be.
