it was good. I was always curious about his romance and I'm glad there's not just one but a whole series on the Green sisters. Every romance connection wilder than before and I guess at this point I'm more curious about the parents and their romance.
Also so furious about the whole 'you lied to me' plotline cause like understand the guy's perspective too I mean I kind of would feel wronged because what if they have internalized shame and need time for explaining instead of having their feelings exposed.
Something about do good and does no evil characters infuriates me because like.... isn't it a sign of innocence? naivety? and honestly selfishness too to a certain extent. Then how come only they are appeased? I felt bad for Frankpoor guy kept getting rejected for every proposal which again, all rights and power to Mamie, but like???? Be a bit more understanding when hus secrets got exposed or when she wanted to tell the mom about the daughter getting intimdated by the police officer like your view of the world is not the only one.

I had been eagerly awaiting this book, after getting to know Frank Tripp in Ms. Shupe's Four Hundred Series. This book did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the romance and the writing. Frank is a great character, and I loved learning his back story and more about what made him who he is. Mamie was a fantastic heroine whose beliefs and values were realistic for the time. I have been in a bit of a romance reading lull lately and have been putting down many books I pick up, but I read this book in just a few hours. What a wonderful book! Note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via Edelweiss. All opinions are my own and given freely.

Finally getting around to Joanna Schupe, and I hate to say it folks, but I don't think we're a match. While I liked these being set in New York and her focus on poor immigrant families during that time, I didn't find the core relationship to be all that compelling or worth rooting for. I think the hero does redeem himself at the end, but much of the development of their relationship felt forced.
Moderate: Murder, Domestic abuse, Alcoholism, and Sexual content
Minor: Child abuse

I rarely read American-based historical romance, nothing wrong with it really, it’s just preference. Anyway, I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did.
It’s refreshing and not overly dramatic, for the most part I was rooting for Frank — I don’t know, but my heart went out to him.
A few things I don’t like aren’t exactly deal breakers. I was surprised at how easy Duncan Greene resolved the matter of Mamie’s wedding; for someone who had a lot of strong opinions about it, it was unexpected to see him relent so easily. Also, I was expecting a very interesting court scene — I was so invested in that part of the story and I was just craving for a good scene.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book and I will read more of this author’s work, most likely from this series.
