Good story with a lot of plot twists. Definitely would recommend!

I liked the initial premise of this book but it became too complicated for me, and lost its credibility. I also had an issue with its style - far too wordy in my opinion.

many many many things happened in this book, and there were many many many characters. the writing was good for the most part and i feel like most of the characters were well done... i felt like the oppressive rural Australian sun/heat was a character all on its own for how often it was mentioned.

the romance was icky and i wish it didn't exist in the book. the male author falls into that male author trap where our main female character was hot and young and this must be mentioned multiple times despite no other characters getting detailed physical descriptions (except i may be remembering one scene in which a heavier woman was described in very colourful detail -  take this with a grain of salt, as i could have it confused)

the mystery was fine if a bit convoluted and dragged out. there were many reveals, and i do enjoy a good reveal, but by the end i was tired of them. it also boggles my mind that the events of the book took place in less than a week. this book took me forever and a day to finish so that is definitely colouring my impression.
