How utterly disappointing. I have seldom, if ever, disliked a book of Self's but, with the exception of the first of the four stories, I found myself completely disengaged from this book. I made it (read: struggled through) to the end of the second story, and then attempted the third, before I gave up.
Self's prose is normally remarkable, but this was uninspired, indulgent (and not in the good way), and ultimately very tedious.
