This is the first book I've read by this author & thus the first book I've read in this series. I got it at a library sale and thought it was smut because neither cover led me to believe otherwise. Surprise! It's fantasy.
So I read some of the reviews, saw that this book doesn't really align with previous books in the series well, and figured I'd be fine. I'm happy to report that that's the case.

Why I loved it:

Purely for the way the Scottish characters were written. They felt very real but whimsical at the same time. I really wish we got more from their points of view.

Why I didn't:

There is so much repeated context given for past events that it got offensive around the halfway mark. This book could have easily been shortened by 150 pages had the author threw in a reference to a past event and then kept it moving.

However, having to (quite literally) constantly read about a rape was EXHAUSTING, especially since it added nothing to the story. The illusion would have been just fine as opposed to repeated references in multiple chapters in varying level of detail.

Cinching it for me: Ryodan & Dani. You're older than literal dirt but unhealthily obsessed with a child? Then magically she ages 6 years when she's trapped in Faery for ONE WEEK, when context implies that that really doesn't happen, and you can already see her as an adult? She was 14 a week ago!! Absolutely get real. That's so gross.

Reading any more of this series would feel like a punishment even though I didn't mind the plot.

It's a bit of an irony that I didn't want to read Iced because of the change of pov from Mac to Dani, but with that ending I wanted to read about Dani more.

I liked Mac's pov, but I kind of want Dani to get her romance, hopefully with Ryodan, or just Dani. I want her back so bad. Jada is kind of entertaining but I need answer and she's not giving them to us, and I want romance, and Jada doesn't get to do whatever she wants with Dani's body.

That plot twits was actually pretty amazing and creepy and I can't wait to see where it goes.
