This book started slow and you got to know the characters, wondering how this could tie all together. The gentle world building of a small Oceanside town reels you and keeps you hooked. Once the twists start coming and the mystery progresses, I read even faster and couldn’t put it down.

Congrats to Shelby Van Pelt on such an amazing debut! 🩷 I read this for book club and honestly was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Marcellus was the ultimate star of this book, and I do wish he had gotten more time to shine, but I loved his journey. Michael Urie was the PERFECT narrator for this role. 😆 Tova was absolutely wonderful and quirky. Cameron was the annoying character who you couldn’t help but root for and hope for the character development. The book was a bit slow to start, but the backstory was necessary to understand how everything tied together.

I loved this book! It was so charming and wholesome. I loved the different perspectives, especially Marcellus. The audiobook was really fantastic too. I rated this 4 instead of 5 stars because I felt bored at times as the plot was emerging in the beginning which definitely took its time, but that didn't do much to detract from my enjoyment here.

This book was amazing. I loved the way it was told from different, interwoven perspectives. And I loved all of the rich characters and grew to care so much about them- human or cephalopod. The pacing was exactly right for everything except my sleep schedule- I could not put it down in the last half. A remarkably bright and brilliant book!

This book is really exceptional and I don’t think I’ve ever read a book quite like Remarkably Bright Creatures. A mix of coziness and magical realism, this book will grab your heart with Van Pelt’s prose and unique characters. The multi-POV was a bit confusing at first (I didn’t see the whole point for certain characters’ POV), but it ultimately makes sense in the end. Definitely would recommend reading if you’re looking for a heartwarming, found family contemporary featuring a blunt octopus and beautiful prose.

Although the reader can foresee that it’s all going to come together a certain way, that doesn’t spoil this lovely story, in which you can’t help but root for all the characters.
