I first read this series as a young teenager and fell in love with it. As an adult I still love it but for different reasons now. O’Barr’s artwork is just incredible and highly detailed. The inclusion of poetry that themes with the dark work of The Crow is beautiful, I didn’t appreciate that part as much when I was younger. A great story of vengeance and love eternal mixed with the utter grief of having lost love. O’Barr was channeling rage when he wrote this series and you can see it as the series continued to become more brutal over time. He originally began working on this in part to deal with the sudden death of his own fiancé but as the story points out you’re never really able to fix that loss and the hole it puts into you. Beautiful and tragic.

I enjoyed the graphic novel and it moved me to tears a couple of times while reading. Although I don't plan on rereading it, I believe it was a good story. However, I prefer the movie adaptation over the book.

The comics start rough around the edges but grow into something special. First read this as a teenager. Has stayed with me since.
