I never thought I'd say this, but I didn't enjoy one bit the comic book. The Brandon Lee movie is way better.

This is a magnificent graphic novel - a true expression of grief and revenge. I went into this not a expecting many surprises, but this really hit me hard. I don’t know what else to say about it other than it is incredibly moving.

Surprisingly I didn’t enjoy this as much as I had expected (or hoped) I would. Maybe it's just difficult to enjoy it...
I thought it was very angry and there wasn’t much humanity within its pages. The characters seemed like sketches. Incomplete. No motivations. Just doing bad shit cause, well, they’re bad guys. Eric clearly the one who was fleshed out a bit, but it felt like his revenge was all very one dimensional.
He was full of chat and pseudo-philosophising as he mowed through the bad guys, but there wasn’t much in the way of charm or suchlike. Maybe that’s me viewing him as, or comparing him to, Brandon Lee’s portrayal. I dunno.
The art (within this special edition anyway) is a bit inconsistent, too… that was jarring at times. Distracting. Sparklehorse and An August Noel just felt a bit out of place. Particularly the August Noel.
Anyhoo, maybe it just wasn’t what I needed or maybe others have taken the formula and improved upon it. I dunno, it all just left me feeling a bit cold (maybe that’s the point?)… I appreciate its place and importance for indie comic writers and suchlike, I just thought I’d like it a whole lot more than I did.
But yeah, disappointing… a bit empty… that’s just my take away from it.

First time I've read the special edition and the story is just as beautiful as I remember

The most heart-wrenching comic I have ever read.
Great story (always been the fan of the movie, but never read the original graphic novel).
While the art would probably turn some people away and is confusing at times, I feel it is more about the time period for indie comics than anything. It’s the creator telling the story they need to tell and it’s very personal. I think that’s what makes it so affective.
