it's far better listened to or read aloud than just read. on spotify you can get most of it read by ginsberg himself or you can find various readings by patti smith.
either way its better out loud than just read,
i loved it though his poetry is great if you have the patience to sit and read through it over and over

allen ginsberg is just incredible. howl, especially, is gut wrenching. the kind of not-for-everyone poetry that i think everyone should give a shot to- if it is for you, it is so so worth it to find out.
Minor: Sexual content and Cursing
i’m doing this from memory so i really can’t remember all the particular tws. i’ll edit this later but for now, two things. (1) ginsberg is purposefully subversive and this often leads to crude language and frequent mentions of sex. no in depth sex scenes, just know you’ll be reading “cock,” “cum,” etc., a lot and maybe don’t pick up his work if that’ll bother you. (2) these topics, even the ones i’m potentially missing, are all just dropped in lines of poetry. no super in depth sex scenes, no graphic descriptions of gross or traumatic things. things may be mentioned frequently, but, for me at least, it’s easier to skip around triggers here than in prose.moviemagus's review against another edition

This collection has poems written in two very different styles, one of them being one I've never really encountered before. Ginsberg's poetry is heavy, full of cultural references, which was very interesting and stimulating but it did not give me the feeling I usually expect from poetry. That said, I'd like to read more by Ginsberg and learn more about his life, since his references are sometimes deeply personal.
