The synopsis of this memoir caught my eye when it was a BOTM pick back in April. It sat on my shelf for a while, and I’m so glad I picked it up. This memoir was thought provoking, honest, and deeply affecting. I appreciated the author’s candidness and way she willing brought the reader into her head and heart. As I read her words, I felt like I was there with her. I felt her feelings from the way she openly and honestly described her experiences. The organization of the chapters was easy to follow and they flowed seamlessly together. The time jumps were handled perfectly. The topics this memoir delved into were intriguing and well fleshed out.

This book reads like a novel. The flow moves along, and the depths of her feelings as an Army wife making friends with women she might otherwise not befriend are genuine and honest. I would not have had the strength to be an Army wife. I deeply respect all of the wives she tells about in her memoir.

I was very intrigued by the premise of this memoir and grabbed it immediately. And overall, it’s a solid memoir.

I don’t know much about the military, but The Wives gives good insight, especially about those waiting at home. I can’t even imagine.

While that aspect didn’t resonate with me, the author details her anxiety-filled first pregnancy and postpartum struggles. And that resonated with me SO much.

I definitely recommend giving this memoir a read!

Thank you to the publisher for a gifted audiobook.

A beautiful memoir that will have you grappling with your own beliefs and values around what you would do for a relationship. Gives a fascinating close-up look at what life in the army demands from both those who enlist and the families (women) who are the invisible support system holding everything together.
