This book is like a ride along with a new military wife leaving her artsy New York life behind and discovering that people are people and even people that have different political or social opinions can become some of the most important people in our lives, can help us grow without compromising our different view points. Barring the big ones, of course. Some people grow up young, some people grow up old. It seems that the time she spent with people unlike her helped her grow into herself.  

She points out that the military takes the husband from the wife, and the wives community is part of what fills the hole, but the book is more memoir than thesis.
