I could not think of a better way to commence Memorial Day weekend 2024, than with this review.
This book is so heartfelt, heartbreaking, yet heartwarming all in one. Simone’s incredible bravery to share this story is shown throughout. This is such an inspiring memoir that gives you an insight into the lives of our soldiers on the home front and what goes on while they are away. From training to deployments the military wives often find themselves alone or with each other. For seasoned wives they are used to it, for new ones it could feel like your world has been turned upside down.
Simone shared her incredible journey of finding love and the love of her life wanting to join the military, not just any unit either but an elite one. Simone moved away to Georgia where her husband was stationed and quickly felt herself feeling all alone. With time she began to realize she had so many people in her corner and those were the other Army Wives. While they all came from different backgrounds they all shared one thing in common and it was the army. While it seems small and like a just one aspect of life, the army was at the center of it. Simone found her place in the new world and even through her struggles flourished. This was such a beautiful story!!
I absolutely loved this book. While we have been enjoying all the Memorial Day festivities, I hope everyone took a moment to reflect on the true reason of the day! That not all families and not all wives have been fortunate to have their husbands return. That behind the scenes are the wives who hold up the family and are warriors on the home front. Our soldiers are not the only ones who go to war, so do their families in a way not many can understand. I ask that we all reflect during this time and say a prayer or send good vibes, whatever it is you believe in!
