"The Wives" is a mixed bag. I liked the honest look at the author's life as an army wife. It kept me engaged and it was interesting to learn more about the women’s network and community of being the spouse of a member of the US military. However, some parts dragged on with overly detailed descriptions.

It's important to note that this is a memoir, so the author's views are naturally present. While her political leanings are clear, they aren't shoved down your throat. I’ve read negative reviews stating Gorrindo “made things political” and even audaciously claimed she is unAmerican, which couldn’t be further from the truth. She gives a very honest, straightforward description of her life and her thoughts. She recognizes her ignorance and naivety of this world throughout the story.

There were moments where she seemed a bit pretentious when describing other people (looks and education), which took away a bit for me.

Overall, a 3-star read. Interesting perspective, but could have been tighter.
