I don't usually read books set in the future. I read this to fulfill a PopSugar Reading Challenge prompt. Although this isn't a genre that I generally enjoy, the world that Monáe creates is interesting and the stories set in that world are thought provoking.

I cried quite a bit while reading some of these stories. It's really touching to engage with stories that imagine beyond capitalism and policing. However, at times, the prose was so flowery that clarity was sacrificed (looking at you "Timebox")

Not just for the fandroids; I suspect Nevermind works well enough on its own without the Dirty Computer emotion picture.

I might park this review and get back to it when it's rolled around in my head a little more.

Great collection of short stories. Some of them end abruptly and I wish they were longer.
