Read this on the plane to New York. Finished it minutes before boarding a plane to come back to Louisiana.

This is a rather fucking amazing book. I can't even sum up all the things I loved about it. I do feel cheated, though. This feels like it's even better as an audiobook. I really want to hear this story in Gaiman's voice.

I did not see almost any of the twists coming. Just brilliant and wonderful. Love. Entirely.

Even better in his voice. And I caught things I missed on first read.

I am cheating. But only by a wheeeee bit. I am technically listening to This. Which is the most amazing radio play known to man freaking kind

I mean, COME ON! Just LOOK at this cast! Look at the picture of Tony Head as Mr. Croup, for crying out loud!

And oh dear god, is he sexy when he's evil.
----

I think this BBC Radio Play gave me an orgasm.

Seriously, if you can get your hands on it, LISTEN TO IT. Tony Head is PERFECTION as Mr. Croup, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Oh.

Oh, my.

Angry Islington is....rawr.

Dying.

I want to see video of them recording this. All the actors did a fantastic job. I wasn't particularly a fan of James McAlvoy (sp? Whatever) before, but he did a bang up job, as did my amazing lady Natalie Dormer.

Love. this. so. much.

And yes it counts as a book, I don't care what anyone says.

(I have no idea when I wrote this, or why I didn’t proof read it before posting!). A magnificent idea for a book, I came to this with a little cynicism as I was not that keen on the TV version. The first half seemed to uphold my prejudices as it just seemed like a novelisation of the TV show, and then something happened in the second half where I forgot the TV show and started imagining the world this is set in without budgetary constraints! The world is fascinating, and is left open for a sequel that, as far as I know has not happened.

There are come amazing characters - Croup and Vandemar, the Marquis de Carabas, and the Angel Islington comes alive on the page in a way he did not on the TV series (even though on TV he was played by the amazing Peter Capaldi). And the scenes are the end, where Richard Richard Mayhew Dick cannot ajdust to life in the real world just work wonderfully.

I enjoyed this so much I will be seeking out more by this author.

I really don’t know why I have not read more Neil Gaiman.
I adore this book - I know that I have read it at last twice before. This time I read the stunning Folio Society 2022 edition.
The premise is very clever - there are two Londons. The one we all know - London Above - and the one that we don’t, London Below. In fact you could walk past someone from London Below on the street and, even if they were screaming in your face, barely notice them.
A series of unfortunate events ends up with Richard Mayhew, a dull man with a dull life, dull job, dull fiancé, dull flat in fact dull everything, passing from London Above to London Below. His desk vanishes at work where nobody recognises him. His bank card won’t acknowledge his existence. He finds his letting agent showing someone around his flat.
So why is this happening? It’s all tied on to a mysterious woman called Door, her various protectors, two murderous psychopaths (Croup and Vandemar) and even an Angel. Intrigued? Read it then. It’s bloody brilliant.
Going to have to read some more of Gaiman’s stuff, it’s long overdue.

Another classic Neil Gaiman story. I loved this, Door is one of my favourite Gaiman characters. Cant wait to listen to the BBC adaptation!
