i had heard some not great things about the second one but i actually liked it a lot. it was definitely a little slower than the first one but i found the mystery and politics of the world very engaging and i really liked the before of grim and isla’s relationship. it was at times more interesting than the present day plot in the book. overall i was entertained and i loved the twists and turns it took. can’t wait to dive into the third one

I listened to this as an audio and I feel this is quite a pivotal point to bring out for this review.

I was so confused during this sequel. Isla (altho I think it should be spelt Izla with how they pronounce it on audio) is constantly going between present and past memories via dreams and man is it hard to keep up on audio! I tend to dip in and out throughout the week as I listen to books for my 10/15 minute commute to work. So when I turn it on again, it takes me ages to work out whether we're in the present or a memory, especially as Izla doesn't seem to like Grim in either case now for some reason?

I dont how, maybe I've missed something as I have to admit, I listened to the first book too and I did tend to zone out quite a bit. Especially when you finish on a chapter with basically the bad person's big reveal and them just reeling off every tiny part of everything they did along to way to tie up any potential loose ends...it's a little too much to take in so I reckon I missed something which would've helped me during this second one maybe?

Honestly though I don't can't enough to go back and listen again!

I have the third one on my to read list and I am in two minds whether to bother.
