2.5/5
I like how I'm getting to know more about the sisters and the new characters. I liked Tulip but wasn't happy with a choice she made in this book. Not having more background of Ursula was a disappointment.

I love this concept of reimagining the Disney movies but from the villains perspective. This was an incredible story with just enough references to the movie that you get excited about it without feeling it’s played out. I read this one randomly but will be reading all of them!!

I really enjoyed the “villain’s perspective” & the world building, just wish it had been longer!

I wish I would have read the first two books in the series beforehand, i was somewhat confused during the storyline. Also it was obvious that they were setting up maleficent for the next book. To me this was irritating and feel like they couldn’t left out a major part of that from the story. I did enjoy, seeing the viewpoint of Ursula it gave me more insight into her physique and why she did what she did. It make me look at the movie differently now.

This is the third Villains book I've read (I only read them when I need something short and quick to get through) and while I don't hate it the most (that award still goes to Maleficent's book) it's likely the worst one I've read so far, objectively. Let's get one thing clear right away: despite Ursala being on the cover, this story isn't actually about her. The random side characters of this universe take over and shove Ursala out of her own book. Also, even though the description of this book would likely lead you to believe it's a backstory for how Ursala became evil, she just tells you her life story near the beginning and then the rest of the time she appears it's in the form of a Little Mermaid retelling. I also personally cannot stand the writing and think it reads like a high school English paper but a big portion of that is probably because I don't like omniscient POV in general. The last thing I'd like to say is don't think too much about the timeline or setting; it'll drive you mad because no matter how you look at it, the lore doesn't fit within the Disney movies. Just keep telling yourself these are fanfiction and you'll be okay.

If you're looking for a story about Ursala the Sea Witch, don't buy this. If you're looking for a Little Mermaid retelling, closer but I'm sure there are better books for that purpose. If you love this series and want more of the Odd Sisters, Cicre and Tullip, you'll love this one.
