I was particularly interested by the vivid descriptions of racist attacks at various points in time in the UK as it is quite astounding to hear the reality beyond the odd name calling or stereotype. I found that some of the text was a political manifesto for Khan’s career, listing too many names of projects and professional achievements and intentions. Some of the social cohesion messages were overly simplistic and lacked depth. That said, there were parts I truly enjoyed. I always felt that
wearing a hijab is misjudged by white western men as oppressive but couldn’t explain why it wasn’t. now I able to have a conversation about it and properly explain the reasons behind it and why it can be a feminist choice. That has allowed me a deeper understanding of Muslim women and ability to talk to others about it.
