A really great mystery book! It met all my expectations and the story came together very satisfyingly at the end. The complex changes in timelines and characters really let you get the most of the story, and led to a very unexpected but believable ending. The writing style is nice as well, and my only criticism is that it wasn’t super captivating in the first hundred pages or so, but the rest of the book made it all worth it!

Captivating book with a good mystery, even I did figure it out halfway through (I say, adjusting my Sherlock Holmes hat), but it was still interesting to see how the characters/author played it out. The gradual revealing of lives and secrets was well done also. The prose itself wasn't great; there weren't distinctions between character voices, and a lot of the story was told to us instead of shown. That said, it was still done well, and, even though the characters were awful people making awful decisions, I still managed to sympathize with them, even if I was just yelling at them to not be stupid.

It was such an interesting concept, but I didn't enjoy the execution or the characters. Also hate when the main character is an alcoholic and it's basically their entire personality and has such a huge impact on the plot.
Enjoyed the narration. Listened at 2x to start and gradually increased to 2.75x as I adjusted to their accents.

When this first came out, I listened to it on audiobook. Normally, I’m not a fan of audiobooks but the narrators/voice actors did a fantastic job. I didn’t rank the book then, but probably would have given it 4 1/2 stars, if not more. Years later, and reading the physical book this time, I’m not as impressed. I still love the multiple POVs and the unreliable narrator, but I found the characters to not have their own tone, nor personalities to tell them apart. Also, I half-remembered who the villain was, so maybe the knowing made it less fun the second read. Overall, I still liked it, just didn’t blow me away.

this books is complicated. most of the characters are extremely troubled, and everything of the plot only makes it worse. seeing multiples visions of different characters is a great feature, it helps understanding the story and, sometimes, makes you want to solve the mystery yourself. Paula Hawkins may have a talent for writing surpringly intense scenes and freaky twists. even though the books has good points, the romantization of abuse and how it adresses it's characters mental issues is horrible and uncomfotable, but if you dont have any problem with this, you might enjoy it.
