Amazing and very intense. From time to time little disturbing, but still worth reading.

Dziewczyna z korka

Dorwałem gdzieś darmowego audiobooka, więc w końcu przyszła pora, by umilić sobie tą powieścią wystawanie w korkach w drodze do i z pracy.

To tyle jednak. Poczucia straconego czasu nie mam (w końcu czy da się bardziej stracić czas w korkach?), lecz również niewiele ponadto.

What a shocker. 2 stars is generous. For a start how can the woman of the title be a 'girl'. All the female protagonists are mature women. Surely we can allow females to become women at some time in their lives?

Secondly the story is lame, it is strung out and annoying. While there are some fleeting insights into the destructive side of alcohol and difficulties people face in abusive situations, the story just did not gell.

Third... Well I did guess the identity of the murderer about half way through, but probably was not really sure till a little later in the story. There are just too many implausible decisions made and the characters too conveniently silly or just totally narcissistic in their view of the world.

Only read if you are sure that you like the books that some of the reviewers who have given it a rave review read...

Plot or Character Driven: A mix

Although this was a thrilling read it doesn't add anything new to the mystery/thriller/suspense genre. Again we see the multiple narrators, the unreliable narrators, the unlikeable characters, the troubled marriage(s), the victimized woman/women, and etc. Clearly these tropes continue to draw the readers, but I'm ready for the book that will finally go beyond the GONE GIRL comparisons. Also, I totally guessed about THAT connection very early on - another overused trope. Despite the lack of creativity I did want to keep reading. It's a good snow day read. If you don't get to it this winter, save it for the beach.

I liked the language and way of telling the story (it made for a nice, easy read). The main protagonist's story was quite triggering at times. The plot twist was not entirely unexpected, but still well-written. Tom's character made me want to punch him tho.

I listened to this on audio and at first, I hated it. I thought it was weird and that the narrator was insane. For the first two or three chapters, I would find myself saying "What the heck? She is crazy!" about both Rachel and Megan. Around the 4th chapter or so, I did find myself wanting to know more. I could not stop listening! I listened to it fairly quickly, too. I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but I loved it.
