not sure if kids would like it but I really enjoyed it
The first book in a series called The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place, where a 15 year old girl becomes governess to three wild children, literally raised by wolves, she has to teach them English and general victorian etiquette. It's reminiscent of Jane Eyre in its setting, but much more child-friendly! And reminiscent of Lemony Snicket in the tinkered with feeling the Victorian period has here, there is a modern sensibility about it, as well as low-cut necks, a no-no in Victoriana and it also feels a lot like the Cinderella movie from Disney due to the 50s styling some characters get from Jon's lovely illustrations.
Adorable, hilarious, I enjoyed it from beginning to end.
This is a fun series with an excellent narrator for the audiobooks. The children's howls and yips translate well to audio :) Highly recommend.
lighthearted
an odd little book that sort of follows in the lemony snicket footsteps of the narrator occasionally making commentary on the happenings of the book, but with less of the vocabulary lesson sidenotes. a 15 year old governess is hired by the ashton estate to educate and raise three children, raised by wolves, and discovered by the master of the estate on a hunting trip. it was okay, but i'm not chomping at the bit to read sequels.
Eleanor loved this - I thought it was cute and silly, just not my favorite
