Easy to listen to on audible as two simple viewpoints to follow. Main focus is death of a family member and the grief processes for the different people impacted. Its uplifting and fun, finding the positive in a storm. Challenging your own comfort zones and encouraging you to step out and experience all life has to offer.
I’m on a bit of a Beth O’Leary kick right now, and I’m really enjoying all of her books. This one stands out to me as less of a straightforward romance in a way that I really appreciated. I haven’t read many books with older main characters, and this was a fun one. Eileen is so youthful in her wit, determination, and lack of tolerance for bullshit. I love her, and I love Leena as well. This book is such a moving story of grief, healing, and love.
So I just finished The Flatshare which my book club is reading this month, and as I had The Switch sitting on my kindle I thought it best to read that as well so that I am fully up to date. Much like the Flatshare, this book is filled to the brim with incredibly well written and engaging characters. Grandma was undoubtedly my favourite and I fully intend to become her when I reach that age.
Also similar to it predecessor this book also deals with some pretty heavy issues; in this case grief and loneliness in the elderly. But it accomplishes these themes with a very easy reading and lighthearted tone, so you come away feeling hopeful. I also appreciate the lack of “mush” which I do not particularly enjoy in a romcom - the characters shenanigans and adventures were far and away the most engaging part of the book.
Will definitely be looking out for The Road Trip next year!

Dare I say I like her as much as Mhairi McFarlane? This story was like a hug and I just loved it. The cast of characters was a but too big, but it was so endearing and charming that it didn't matter.
