I’ve accidentally known the ending of this trilogy, couldn’t accept it at first but then, I’ve decided that it’s fitting.

My feelings wavered. I despised the Darkling then I pitied him, intensely. Especially of his side of view, to be
seen as a tool, and not a literal human being? Heartbreaking. He just didn't have a good role model growing up, and shaped him into what he is in the current timeline.
This book also changed my opinion on Mal.
He's still that annoying, insecure, and in my honest opinion, he pulled Alina back from the many opportunities she should be having, but then again, knowing what he really is for Alina is satisfying.
Fun read.

A down gread from s&s but still very good. Mal is finsoy useful and has a personality!!. The plot did drag a bit. But with all said and done, a unsatisfying but logical ending, everything was tied up nicely but it will leave you a little unsatisfied. Very much enjoyed though

In the final installment in the Grisha trilogy, Alina must gather what is left of her supporters to go up against the Darkling.

Everyone I’ve seen talking about this trilogy seemed to agree that Siege and Storm was the worst of the three books, but I honestly thought Ruin and Rising was the weakest story. Did I still blow through it in a weekend? Yes. But the ending felt like a letdown after the previous books.
I’ve seen some debate over whether or not Alina should have kept her powers in the end; and I think I fall on the side of her being able to retain at least some of them (maybe reduced?). It felt too much like Mal could never be happy with her if she remained Grisha, and that is just not a good enough reason for her to lose her power. I didn’t like their relationship much to begin with—definitely a little too close to a Katniss/Gale vibe for my liking—and while it got slightly better in this book, I never got completely on board.
I found Nikolai’s storyline the most intriguing (he’s just the best!) and I hope that we get more details about it in King of Scars.

Happy ending meter (no specific spoilers, just the vibe of the ending):
Happy enough, I guess? But a little disappointing, in my opinion.

I loved the ending.  It just seemed so right and well written.  However, I was expecting more characters to die, so it’s not a completely realistic ending.

My CAWPILE score: 7.07 (so just hit 4 star range!)

This was soooooo much better than Siege and Storm imo and I really enjoyed my time with most of it!

I was really glad that there was a portion of the plot here that subverted my expectations!
The ending does involve one of my least favourite tropes though so I wish it had gone very differently! Here's hoping that it's one of the elements that the adaptation ends up changing!
