Funny as heck. Dalton is pure chaos and I'm here for his sass and flirtatiousness

Great start to the series, just suspend your belief for the goofy premise and you won't regret it. Love it.

BRIEF SUMMARY:
In this contemporary shifter romance, Simon is a paleontologist working on an important Oviraptor egg that’s being targeted by a serial fossil thief. Forewarned, Dalton is sent to reclaim the fossil before it can fall into the wrong hands, and the unsuspecting dino-nerd Simon gets caught up in the fray. Suddenly, he and the punk-rock raptor brat find themselves on a high-stakes road trip from New York to Dallas, with an angry adversary on their tail.

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: 5 / 5⭐
I had no idea what I’d be getting into when I came across this book, but I was immediately intrigued by the concept of dinosaur shifters existing in the modern world. A bit farfetched? Maybe, but the reviews for it were surprisingly positive, so I figured I’d give the book a try – and am I ever glad I did. Cover to cover, I was delighted at every step of the journey and, by the end, my face genuinely hurt from smiling through all their dumb little charming interactions.

Have I read better romances? Sure, but that didn’t stop me from having a riot of a time reading about this fearless, pink, pierced and inked ruffian falling for a wildly inexperienced and under-socialized older scientist who has no business being the focus of a mob’s attention. I’m plenty willing to suspend my disbelief over how fast they move from “let’s get steamy” to “I love you,” because I’m reading a hecking book about dinosaur shifters and enjoying every second of it

TECHNICAL / PRODUCTION: 4.5 / 5⭐
I am delighted that this book is using up-to-date science regarding what we know about dinosaur phenotype and doesn’t subscribe to the lies we were raised on for the sake of making monsters more monstrous. Obviously some artistic license is going to be used, but I can tell Maddox cares about portraying them to the best of our current understanding. My earliest dream-job was to one day become a paleo artist, so I relate to Simon’s nerd-outs quite strongly.

Kirt Graves did a great job in the audiobook production. I felt like he had a great time portraying Dalton’s character, and I in turn had a great time listening.

FINAL THOUGHTS - OVERALL: 4.75 / 5⭐
Look, is the concept a little on the strange side? Maybe, but if you’re in it for a good time and not trying to take it too seriously, then there’s no reason you shouldn’t give it a go! I can't stress how much fun I had.

This book has representation for gay and bi sexualities. There is some light representation in diversity, but I haven’t decided if the author goes far enough to merit the cast being acknowledged as diverse.

The following elaborates on my content warnings. These may be interpreted as spoilers, but I do not go into deep detail.
This book contains: animal death (predators hunting prey); blood, injuries; violence (gun, knife, physical); a fatphobic remark; brief mention of death of a parent; and, a vehicle collision.
