THIS BOOK. WOW. I was pulling my hairs out, grinding my teeth, rushing through the pages and having to back track because I couldn't remember what I was reading and the details were a blur. This was that kind of book. And it's been a long, long time since I had read anything that made me cling to the edge of my seat, had me taking breaks from reading and running around the house to process what I had just read. AHHHH I cannot, it was THAT good!!!

Ok, that was mostly my emotions haha, but seriously it was soooo good in sooo many different ways. I mean the plot twists kept twisting left and right! One moment I had made conclusions and in the next moment I had to erase all the ideas formulating in my head, because there were other things at hand, evidence that pointed in all sorts of directions. And omggg the way I was mentally screaming at the fmc (arghhh I want to cryyy)!!! I thought her soooo dumb and stupid for some of the decisions she made, but somehow all of that stupidity worked out and I was so glad for her initial dumb decisions XD. At other times, she made smart moves that definitely did not work for her and made me understand why she continued to resort to those dumb ones lol. As for the ending, I did not see it coming at. all. whatsoeverYou know, throughout the book I thought was the smart one, because I thought I had figured mystery books out...LMAO I was soooo wrong - I definitely DO NOT have them figured out >_< .

Anyway, go read this. Like right now.

The main girl makes frustrating decisions. The story veered dangerously close to some compelling ideas and thoughts but forgot all about them for the twist-riddled mess of an ending.

…the past never stays where we try to keep it, stuffing it deep into the back of a closet and hoping to forget.

I feel bad for Chloe. She's surrounded by people who are either liars or immoral.

I did guess early on the plot twist, but I did not expect this to have many (minor) plot twists. Those little plot twists kept me engaged and made me skim this. However, I needed some help with this book.

Sometimes the transition of Chloe's thoughts from the present to the past (or vice versa) could be more apparent. It could have been more seamless. One minute we're reading about what Chloe was thinking about now/in the present, then the next minute, we're transported to her past, reading about what past Chloe was feeling at that moment. I don't know if this is intentional since Chloe is supposed to be an unreliable narrator, but it sometimes kept me confused. I've read enough thrillers to know there's a better way to do this.

Additionally, some parts are really repetitive. Since this is a first-person POV (Chloe's POV), we know her whereabouts and thoughts, so there is no need to recount what we read in the past chapters. We just read about 1 or 2 chapters about what happened over the weekend because we were "with her" as readers; there's no need to have 2 or 3 paragraphs of summary the chapter after.

It really bothered me how many times the words "flick," "flicker," "flicking," and "flicking" was mentioned (if you're curious: flick = 6, flicker = 13, flicking = 5, flickering = 9... that's a whole lot for a book less than 400 pages).

Overall, I did enjoy this book. I understand this is the author's debut novel. As she writes more books, her writing style will get better. It was okay, I'm glad I read it since it entertained me, but it had some problems. 2.5 stars.

This held my attention the entire time. I loved the mindset it put me in as far as thinking about the relatives of serial killers and the trauma that comes from it. So many twists at the end.

I'm having a hard time deciding where my feelings land on this one. Through most of the book I had trouble wanting to sit down and read it for extended periods of time. I would get 35-50 pages in and I could just walk away without it being an urge to get back to because I had to know what was happening.

And I absolutely hate that I couldn't sit for an extended period of time to get through it. But do not get me wrong. This was a great story. I really enjoyed the twists, turns and the shock of events within the book.

I also wish there would have been more from from Coopers side of things. If we could have seen how it affected him or Daniel for that matter it could have sewn more doubt regarding who did what. I needed more of an explanation for what happened in the end. There was none for some things and I hate that there wasn't. It would have rounded the story more for so many questions that are being asked.
