Pretty good book; reminded me a lot of the anti climatic "ending" to GOT... Definitely has parts that well the eyes up, but all in all, good book.

This is such a difficult review to write. I have been following this series for a really long time (I think around the time Crown of Midnight came out or it was almost out). I have looked forward to reading this final book and now I have finally done so and it feels like it's leaving me with this empty space in my reader heart (much like Harry Potter did and the Air Awakens series).

To begin with: this is not my favourite book in this series. What I loved about all the previous books were the twists and turns, the foreshadowing (that I especially noticed when rereading the series) and how Aelin could surprise me at times by doing something super simple which later has major consequences (dying her red for example). That is probably my favourite part about any of the Throne of Glass books and I feel like this book barely had any of that. I get why, Aelin is running out of options, everyone is really. But still, it is my favourite part of all the books and I just didn't get enough of it in this one.

What I did really enjoy were all the different POVs. I thought that all the story lines were interesting, I enjoyed all the characters and I loved seeing them all come together for this final big battle. I have loved these characters for years and I have to confess that I teared up quite a few times during happy and sad times. I feel so connected to them and I care so much about what happens to them... I just couldn't stop the tears.

The deaths in this book I sorta saw coming. I felt like certain characters were explored a bit more, others seemed to be sorta left behind and those characters ended up dying. Don't get me wrong, I did feel sad but I think it would have had more of a punch if we had gotten to know them just a little bit better. Now, I mostly felt sad for what their death meant to the other characters.

My final critique of this book, and actually this whole series, is the romance. I love a good romance but I don't like how all the important characters have to find love. Why can't some just be friends? Why can't they just stay single? It's something that has irked me for a while with this series.

Overall though, I think that it is a fine ending of the series. Not enough twists and surprised for my taste but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I love the characters and I loved that we got to spend time with so many of them. They made the plot really shine because I cared about what they did and I cared about what happened to them and their loved ones. I think I will reread this series for the rest of my life and I don't mind that at all.
