Loved this story

I’ve been sitting on some absolute treasures in my TBR, and this is one of them. I’ve read another story by this author years ago (Skies of Dripping Gold) and was sad it was a short story because I wanted more. That’s how I am with this story too - I want more of Jayel and her journey. Short story, but it will resonate with me for a very long time. The feeling of not being valued or wanted... balanced with always move forward. Excellent read.

As the second installment in her Terebinth Tree Chronicles Short Stories, this story packs a punch. The main character, Jayel is a half-blood elf passionate about justice. The author introduced us to her in "Colors of Fear." This story picks up where the other left off and we get to follow Jayel as she tries to figure out how to respond to the society that has rejected her, and what her path in life will be.

The worldbuilding in this short story is exquisite and captivating. The culture of the desert elves gets even more fleshed out in this story. I loved the intricacies of Jayel's character and I related to her struggle for justice.

There are so many fun surprises in this story. You don't want to miss it! The only reason I didn't give it five stars was that it felt a little less cohesive as a whole than Heath's other stories. But it is a fantastic piece of writing and I highly recommend it! Can't wait for the next one to come out!
