Love this series, both the anime and the manga. It's not a story you read for the plot in my opinion, but rather for the character development. The plot is good at the start but gets kind of hard to follow towards the end, but to see the relationship grow between the main characters and to see how they learn from each other makes up for the lacking plot. :)

Very disappointed in the ending. I found the story to be compelling at first, but it never stopped being driven mostly by lectures from one main character to another over and over again about the same topic. I don't like the turn the narrative took from run of the mill dystopian sci-fi into
  appeasing an ancient god
that is not even mentioned until over halfway through all of the books; she is not even explained as such until this installment. The long monologue in which the main character explains all this was beyond annoying; out of nowhere he receives a flash drive full of research a man he met previously just miraculously knew, and we take a whole chapter dedicated to him regurgitating the information point by point. It was such an out of left field final act to a story that has been begging to be wrapped up for 4 volumes. Unfortunately, my disappointment with the latter half of the story overshadows my enjoyment of the beginning sections. I don't know if I'll be reading the extras volume or not. :/
