This book literally put me in a reading slump and I will never forgive Margaret Atwood.

Also massive trigger warning for multiple instances of r*pe of a child. I would not recommend this book tbh. Like at all.

Three women are personally victimized by the femme fatale type taking their limp men. I just quite frankly can’t stand a cheater trope and I really can’t stand that the men cheating in this story are not the villain, the woman is. And then of course by the end of the story we get this weird flip towards sisterhood? Make it make sense.

These girlies are so freaking obsessed with Zennia and her body, it was very uncomfortable. Like are you mad she took your man or are you mad she didn’t choose you. I know Atwood is supposedly a genius so I’m giving the benefit of the doubt and saying - I think or hope, I guess, that all of this is intentional. Maybe. But also considering how first wave her feminism is, it may not be. It may just be a shite book.
The pacing is all over the place and it’s relatively overwritten. She spends a lot of time talking about boobs and genitalia. Very confusing for supposed star writer and feminist icon Margaret Atwood. I wish I had never read this.

i’d never read atwood before, but she’s easily become one of my favourite authors. i originally picked this up for the “male fantasies” quote, but soon became enamoured with atwood’s vivid prose and great talent for writing female characters. while the book can be slow at times, this is largely due to the density of the language, which still works in the book’s favour. a haunting portrait of female relationships, the robber bride is an incredible book.

This book has written by a white woman syndrome with a sprinkling of insanely graphic sexual violence. There's some interesting stuff for sure in here but it's difficult to get past the setup

As with all Atwood books, I feel like there are eight layers here I need to peel back. I could read this three more times and not catch everything.
