Do I think I got everything there is to get in this book? No, most definitely not. In order to actually finish the book, I couldn't pause at every unfamiliar word, though the book's relatively grounded language, almost musical repetition/echoing of words, and mythologicalization of relatively simplistic vocabulary definitely contributed to a more or less accessible reading experience - not that that is by any means the main point, however.
I think there is to be studied and appreciated in this book, from ideas of normalcy/insanity, the human/animal (or: nature) dichotomy, and themes including religion, myth, space, etc. The language is original but simplistic. At times, I questioned whether the narrative style was unnecessarily complex, especially with regards to the shifting addressees. However, I'm more than willing to permit that there may be a layer that I am simply missing due to my limited understanding of Spanish that would give further context to the application of that narrative technique.

Definitivamente este es uno de mis libros favoritos en la vida. Todo libro que exponga con estilo la doble moral de la colonización y la religión institucionalizada siempre me va a gustar, pero éste en particular me voló la cabeza. Cómo comentaron en el club de lectura donde lo leí, me parece que es una historia de terror más folklórica y regional que realismo mágico en sí mismo, y en verdad creo que su lectura cambia muchísimo desde una perspectiva latinoamericana que las de otras regiones, simplemente porque mucho de lo que encontramos aquí no nos es tan ajeno (aunque no seamos de Ecuador, claro que muchas cosas las podemos hallar en las vivencias y creencias de muchos pueblos pequeños y aislados que tambien hay en México, pueblos a los que llega la coca cola y no agua potable ni paracetamol, como comentó una compañera del club). Creo que por lo mismo, a pesar de las situaciones tan violentas que se presentan en la historia, nos es cómodo fluir con la lectura, además de que la prosa de Natalia es bellísima.
Ese es otro punto, es increíble cómo Natalia con tanta oscuridad en el fondo logra crear frases tan bellas y a las vez tan contundentes. Además cómo con tan poca información nos da un buen perfil de cada uno de los nueve personajes del libro (amo eternamente a Agustina y a Mildred y que se pudra Baltazar).
Primero lo leí físicamente y luego lo escuché en Bookmate (ahí también se puede leer directamente) y fue genial porque muchas cosas cuadraron aún más y eso hizo que la historia me impactará aún más. Mi idea de algunos personajes y sus motivos, como Ezequiel, cambió con la relectura por ejemplo, y volví a pensar "¡Wow, Natalia es fenomenal en verdad!".
En conclusión, me encantó el libro y quiero leer todo lo de Natalia en todos los formatos habidos y por haber.

Realismo mágico muy bien construido, Natalia te hace sentir uno con ese pueblo y su vegetación. Con la niebla que envuelve las intenciones de todo y todos en 𝘊𝘰𝘤𝘶á𝘯. En lo personal amo los relatos donde se explora un hecho desde varias voces. Disfruté
mucho leyendo, realmente me engancho.
