I like the story. An interesting read at the intersection of national origin, choices, and being one's "authentic self" (to draw from Silicon Valley vernacular). The reader empathizes with all characters and the author did a great job at highlighting the complications that come with respecting family and going after one's dreams.

I really enjoyed this book! When I am immersed in the peoples lives, and when the book is finished, I mourn the characters,I know it's a good book then!

I loved this story and especially the characters. The pacing is excellent and you'll want to keep reading the whole way through. When you're reading about Anil, you'll be anxious to hear about what's going on with Leena and vice versa. I liked how the author really gave you insight into Anil's cultural background and how he tries to balance the two cultures in his life. There are few books that really leave you feeling satisfied when they end, but this book gives you just enough of a glimpse into the characters' futures to feel as though anything that had been unresolved was resolved. I would love to see another book continuing the story lines from some of the minor characters' perspectives and get updates on how Anil and Leena are doing further into the future.

Another excellent read by Ms Gowda. I am not of Indian descent yet have always loved reading books about India. There is something powerful in the imagery and the family dynamics that are so different from my experiences growing up. The blessings and curses associated with being the golden son. He can do no wrong and he has such high expectations placed upon him. And the female characters - despite not being allowed to have equality, there is such a strong subculture of connection and protection. The story of Anil and Leena was so beautiful and Anil’s process of leaving India behind to acclimate in America was a delicate story to tell. In the US, we may have states separating family members, perhaps 6000 miles from coast to coast. But to live with one part of you in India and the other part of you in America, it’s a very different type of distance.

Don’t want to spoil the book so will leave it at that. Very enjoyable.

This story caught my attention quickly and kept it!

Good book. I found it really predictable at times, but also liked the moments where I was surprised by somewhat unexpected plot twists.
