Not the usual formulation for a murder mystery, which confused me at first and led to a slow start, but in the end I found it a really intriguing way to tell the story.

The Ice Beneath Her is the first book in the Hanne Lagerlind-Schon series by Camilla Grebe.

A woman is found dead in the house of a well-known CEO of a clothing company. His name is Jesper Orre. The story is told from the perspective of 3 people: Emma Bohman (a worker at one of Jesper’s department stores), Peter Lindgren (a detective on the case) and Hanne Lagerlind-Schon (a profiler who worked on a similar unsolved case years ago). I really enjoyed Peter and Hanne.

I think this mystery had a lot of potential since it’s actually a very unique idea for a story. I just thought it was longer than it needed to be. We learn so much (too much?) about their pasts and it started to get boring at times. The majority of the book seems to be about the history of these three characters and it seemed so unnecessary. Perhaps some readers would like this. I just wanted to get on with solving the murder. I also found myself able to guess what was going to happen.

The next book in the series is After She’s Gone. I wonder if Grebe spends a lot of time on the history of the characters in this book as well. I’m not going to rush to find out.
