Incredible little book. Communism is humanity's next step in evolution. We have to be able to evolve beyond competition, aggression, and greed. If we could do that, we could actually work together to end preventable suffering. Imagine a world driven by empathy and community instead of capitalistic greed which forces each individual to scramble like mad to get as much for themself as possible while ignoring the well-being of everyone around them. We must get past our selfishness and see the bigger picture.

An easy introduction to the foundations of Communist thought that is as easy to read and accessible as a catechism from the  middle of the 1800s is.
Engels definitely makes some decent points, such as those concerning history and wage theory. He also makes some not so great points, such as when he says enslaved people have an assured existence and exist “outside” of competition which is patently untrue especially in the American context that he mentions. Also his idea that religion will simply lose its “efficiency” after revolution is one theory I thoroughly disagree with.
Still it is a good introduction to communist theory but it should definitely be the beginning of further study not the end.

This is essentially a Q&A about communism 101, which I definitely needed. I took a few notes and had to re-read certain paragraphs (studying theory isn't a race! It's not the same as reading for entertainment!), but still, I think this was pretty easy to understand. Plus it being so short made me feel like I really was making progress! #StartTheYearWithShortBooks! I think this would be a great introduction to communist theory, highly recommend.

incredibly based. star deducted for cringy shit like racism and 'communism will make all religions superfluous & bring about their disappearance'. but all in all very compelling, a good first text for new leftists.
