3.25 AVERAGE

Some parts were 3 stars. But overall still a 2. At least the second one was more original than be first. Definitely an improvement.

Once again I love the story Scarlett gives us but I could do with less spicy. I understand that's my personal opinion and others will enjoy that and it's also how she deals with trauma. I just enjoy more story than spicy in my books.

Now, this one definitely is a build up book. It's giving us just a little bit here and there making your mind work and hold on to see what's going to happen, between the shape shifting, killing and back stabbing you understand why our blood king is the way he is.

I also wish we got more from his P.O.V. just something about Scarlett's male povs that has a spot in my heart.

I know I will absolutely read the next one because I need some answers!

I felt like this was never going to end, but then per usual with any fantasy book things picked up in the last 75 pages
medium-paced

2.5⭐

This was kinda a mess
I feel like a lot happened but the plot didn't get any further despite all the crap going on
Idk if I'll read the 3rd one..

I STRUGGLED with this one

I devoured Scarlett St. Clair’s Adrian x Isolde series in two days. Honestly, I think I liked it better than Hades x Persephone. It was filled with not only spice, war, and great world building, but also felt much deeper than most that I read.

I’ve made an effort to read only female authors this year and it’s been amazing. And I can tell this one took a lot from the author, emotionally and mentally. There is an undercurrent of female repression and rage that runs through the books and the characters all struggle with it. Who is good and bad? Who is actually supporting and avenging women? Is lifting all women up ok at the expense of those that you love? It’s a push-pull that I think will go even deeper next book.

The love, devotion, and spice between the main characters is top notch, but even that isn’t safe from the unanswered, moral questions around avenging the deaths of so many women. Yeah, lots of “fight then fuck” without fully resolving the issues, but we’re not at the point of the story where it can be resolved yet. The main characters are pulled in many directions and they’re broaching some make or break discoveries.

It’s angsty and everyone is faced with some hard decisions, some that result in massive loss or may in the future.

I can’t wait for the next in the series to see how this all plays out!

I wish I had done a reread of the first book before tackling this one, I felt very little connection to the characters and couldn’t really find the plot. I almost DNF’ed this several times because it was hard to stay invested. Lots of smut and character loss. It was fine, I might have liked it more if I read the books back to back. 2.5 ⭐️’s from me.
