If there’s one thing Hannah Bonam-Young loves it’s a dramatic plot with absolutely no problems!

Premature baby with alcohol fetal syndrome? Don’t worry she’s fine. A hole in her aorta? Forget about it! CPS and struggling to foster their siblings? What do you mean by struggle! A 24 year old financially unstable woman suddenly handed a baby to take care of? SHE’S GOT THIS.

As with her other book, I found this one enjoyable but simply too easy. I love that this author wants to talk about difficult and diverse stories, but I’d love if she actually talked about it!! Everything feels so unearned because nothing is developed enough to have impact. Go girl give us nothing!

My only glaring issue (which felt very out of place with the rest of the book) is that the final 50 pages are about Warren getting so angry he punches a hole in a wall, Chloe kicks him out because of it, and then she has to chase him down to “prove her love for him” and that’s not cute, that’s abuse. 👍

I do really enjoy the concept of an adoptive mother who isn’t a perfect mother, and the complicated relationship Chloe has with both of her moms.

Overall the characters (while underdeveloped) are fun to follow, and this was a nice easy read to finish quickly. Some aspects were cringy - particularly “they call me War because I’m so angry all the time” dear god - but overall it was a sweet book.

I love Hannah's books, I'm obsessed with "out on a limb" and I think she writes MMCs very well. However, I didn't enjoyed Warren and Chloe's relationship. The story was a little bland, I didn't connect with the characters.
the part where he punched a wall... Unnecessary. I understand that he has a lot of trauma but it was too much
