I love Rushdie, although he’s at his best in this book describing the mundanities of his life, rather than confronting the attack itself. Both this book and Joseph Anton are at their best when describing the casual literary salons that Rushdie can host with his peers. But the extended imagined interview with his attacker is just the opposite of that. I hope it was cathartic for Rushdie to write, but it’s just so sad and angry to read.

A really great memoir - Rushdie is clearly a talented writer, and his musings on philosophy, religion, trauma and love were very impactful to read.
