This was a nice read. She worked with sensitivity readers and it landed well. The dedication is what drew me in (something like “For anyone who thought Jess was Rory’s best boyfriend.”) and I’m glad I tried it. The characters were lovable, the scenario felt real, and I just love a read where the communication isn’t just awful. They were actually pretty open considering the situation. Would indeed recommend for a quick, lovely book.

Beautifully written book honestly reading Hannah Bonham-Young makes my heart just feel full.

Next of Kin is about two young adults that have had a hard life. Both had had terrible upbringings and have been part of the Social Care System. They come together to try and get their siblings into their care and give them everything they never had.

Already grabbed your attention? And it’s already pulling on the heartstrings? Good!

Chloe and Warren are just this super cute couple. They have both had it hard but are learning and growing with each other. They recognise that they bring out the best and want to do better and they are just so satisfying to read.

The book I would say is a romance but with strong topics that focus on the characters growth. The romance is a side story and I feel that it makes the book better.

Hannah Bonam-Young’s style of writing is so easy to read and they have created these characters that you want to bring home and smother with all the love you can give. This is my second book by this author and won’t be the last.

Easy read. While I enjoyed the story of the book, I felt like there was something missing. Maybe Warren’s perspective, as we’re only hearing Chloe’s the whole time. It may also help with explaining his strong feelings towards her, which I found is rather quick in their relationship.

While it is not categorized as YA, I would recommend this book to someone much younger than me. The characters and overall plot were great, but it felt extremely underdeveloped at times. Next of Kin is a roommate to lovers romance. If Chloe and Warren want to be legal guardians for their respective young siblings, they must live together through CPS’s TeamUp program. I enjoyed the disability representation in this book—Chloe’s sister was born with fetal alcohol syndrome and Warren’s brother is deaf—but every time Warren called Chloe ‘dove’ I wanted to vomit. I would still recommend this book to a friend; I think I just expected too much. My overall thoughts summed up: not a lot of substance, but cute-ish.
