I was drawn to this story bc I love historical fiction and it sounded really interesting in this post-war timeline in Italy 1920. From the Italian coast setting, the food and more I really enjoyed this character driven story and their journey

It was a great mixture of black mail, theft, intrigue, romance and some character development

The ending seems like there is more to tell and I can definitely understand why this has already been made into a tv series

Something I didn’t really like about it was that there were a lot of characters to keep track of and it could get confusing at times because the transitions between them weren’t great, it just felt like it was skipping around a lot

Muuuito bom e muuito bem executado

Hotel Portofino by J.P. O'Connell is a free NetGalley ebook that I had read in mid-February.

Bella, an English matriarchal hotel owner in Italy, watches out for her family and staff, takes on small pesky battles with annoyances, second-person assurances and contradictions about the guests - quite dusky, starchy dry, like a limited series on BritBox.

Easy listen. I liked the resolution.

I was pleasantly surprised how interesting I found the book, because for some reason I expected the book to be boring, I don’t know why. But the ending of the book  left me confused, so many unanswered questions. Found out there’s a tv series made of the book or more like the book is made because of the series so maybe there will be another book where the plot will continue and my questions will be answered haha. I think I’ll watch the series next 😌

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an audio copy to listen to and review.

I'll be honest - at first it was a bit difficult to get into the story of this on audio. There are a lot of characters to organize and keep track of. However, the story was so good! A hotel in Italy in the 1920 gives off Downton Abbey vibes - we meet the family that owns the hotel as well as the guests and staff that are staying there during the time of the story. I love the sheer grandness of aristocratic families and I'm finding I like to read how barrier changes at that time. The characters are well written - some are lovely from start to end and some are complete cads that only get worse. A great book!
